I ♥ Faces: My summer in review

Posted in i heart faces on September 9th, 2010 by Cathy — Be the first to comment!

This summer was all about getting the Little Peanut out and about. Last year she was just learning how to crawl and had a great dislike for strollers so we didn’t get to do much. While her dislike of strollers remains the same she’s able to walk – I mean RUN so it was a little easier. (Lets pretend I didn’t almost lose her in Target and considered buying a baby leash right then and there!)

We did quite a bit but as I was looking through our photos it seems our favorite activities were the beach and anywhere that had things that go zoom zoom. Apparently she’s got a need for speed! And let me add that she ate practically all of that snow cone by herself….

We took one last trip to the beach to say goodbye over Labor Day weekend….

Etsy favorite Wed: Fall is in the air.

Posted in etsy favorites wednesday on September 8th, 2010 by Cathy — Be the first to comment!

It feels like it went from summer to fall overnight here in MN! While I’m not fond of the cooler weather I do love that it gives me a reason to wear my knit hats and scarves. I’ve got enough to outfit the Brady Bunch but I’m sure I’ll be making a few more this year as I do every year! The trees are still pretty green but I’m looking forward to seeing the beautiful yellow, reds and oranges that come with the changing weather.

Links to these amazing items are below the image.

First row: Fall harvest rosette headband, Autumn walk print, Long pure wool cable knit gloves

Second row: Circle scarf, Cutaway hat, Fall as I remember it print

Mommy brag: itsy bitsy spiders….

Posted in kid stories, our kids' milestones / learning new stuff on September 2nd, 2010 by Cathy — Be the first to comment!

As Mommies (and Daddies) not only did we gain an additional member of our family but we gained bragging rights! What? You didn’t read that part in What to Expect When You’re Expecting?! Ok, so maybe it wasn’t in there… but everyone knows parents love to brag about their kids.

And well, since this is my blog….

We were in the midst of a little photo shoot of one of our up and coming items and she was giving me the “ugly” smile (which I’ll share someday!) so I broke out into song and when I was reviewing the pictures I noticed I got all her moves and knew I had to make a scrapblog for it.

Craft Tip: “Stove top” table cloth

Posted in craft tips, creative inspiration, kid activities on September 1st, 2010 by Mary — Be the first to comment!

My son is all about pretend play and he especially loves “cooking”. I thought about getting him a kitchen set but then I thought about all the space that it would take up let alone the cost of it! So I put on my creative cap and designed a stove top table cloth that could be placed on his existing table since he ALREADY plays with my real pots and pans!

Here’s what I did:

1) I dug through my fabric bin and found a neutral fabric for my son’s table. I measured 40″ X 80″ to allow for a good drape below the table top surface. I then cut out paper pieces to outline the stove “coils” and “knobs”:

how to

2) Next, I outlined the pieces with chalk so that I could then sew on the ribbon and felt appliques:

3) Here’s the fun part: I sewed on the ribbon “coils”, added the felt knobs and for additional interest and color, stamped on the alphabet in the middle section. No reason why he can’t learn while playing, right?! Now I have a Top Chef in training!

BONUS: You know how I love multi-functional stuff, right? Well, this table cloth also has a red-checkered underside that I can flip over and/or use as a picnic blanket. I also sewed on corner pockets to store items (keys, toys, etc.) that will keep the blanket from blowing away!
