Finally! A little girls room to decorate.

Posted in craft projects / craft techniques on July 29th, 2011 by Cathy — 3 Comments

My daughter finally has her own room and after almost three years I have a “nursery” to decorate! It’s so much fun to finally put together all the ideas I’ve been saving up. It’s still a work in progress but I think it’s going to take me awhile to finish so I’m going to share as I get bits and pieces done.

That said, here’s my first bit!

For our wedding I bought a handful of Chinese lanterns to hang. They’ve been in storage since and the sentimental part of me hasn’t wanted to get rid of them but I had no idea what to do with so many. So they sat in storage until I saw this flower on Craftgawker. Inchmark didn’t have a detailed tutorial so I winged it and think it turned out pretty nice.

I started at the bottom by rolling up one of the half-circles into a rose shape and glued it on. Then I glued on half-circles around it. I’m not thrilled about how mine is a little more pointy then theirs at the bottom but by the time I realized it was pointy it was too late to turn back. (Call me lazy! Hehe) Also if I had referred to the image more I would have placed the petals randomly to give it an organic feel.

For the pompoms I used this tutorial from Martha Stewart.

Stay tuned for the next installment! It involves tulle, ribbons and poufs….

Too many cooks in the kitchen?! Not at our house!

Posted in creative inspiration, kid activities, new product/item on July 6th, 2011 by Mary — Be the first to comment!

We got our 16-month little girl a little kitchen set for Christmas. Just recently she’s joined her big brother in the kitchen and has been having a blast feeding me plastic food. This new activity for her inspired me to create our latest handmade item, the little apron skirt & oven mitt. They’re so adorable and fun that even my son has gotten into wearing the skirt version (I’ll just have to find more boy fabrics).  They’re so cute I’m going to have to make myself an adult size one :) Check out our newest creation today!
