My house was built in 2005 and after eleven years, I finally got around to giving my front door a facelift…the burgundy color just had to go! I did a lot of research from different hardware stores, Pinterest and the like and found a paint that got a lot of rave reviews – Modern Masters (NOTE: I am in no way affiliated with nor am paid to promote this product!).
I used a short brush to paint the grooves and a small roller brush to get a smooth finish overall. The great part is that there was virtually no odor (like they said) and a little paint goes a long way! I did two coats on my door and still had more than half left over! Doesn’t my door look amazing? It only took me one day…I worked on it in the morning and was able to re-install it in the evening. It’s been four months now and it still looks like new – no fading whatsoever!
Now, being the frugal person that I am and knowing that burgundy shutters were hanging on my house, I decided to try painting them. The Modern Masters paint is specifically for doors and other wood/metal surfaces and my shutters are cheap plastic – but they look like a million bucks using the same jar of paint (and yes, I still have leftover paint after painting SIX shutters!).
Again, because this paint isn’t meant for plastic, I was not surprised to see that some parts chipped off during the re-installation but with some touch-up, no one will ever know!
Don’t be afraid of a front door makeover – it was SO much easier than I had anticipated and can’t wait to find another door to paint!
