Fleece swing jacket

Posted in craft projects / craft techniques on February 1st, 2011 by Cathy — Be the first to comment!

Little Peanut’s closet is full of adorable sleeveless a-line dresses that haven’t been worn since winter hit. After seeing this Cropped Fleece Jacket from Shwin&Shwin I knew I found a solution to our problem!

While hers was military inspired mine took on more of a vintage swing jacket look (probably due to my lazy “lets just eyeball the measurements and cutting” technique!) I still love how it turned out and see endless possibilities for different variations.

Here’s the Little Peanut all dressed up and ready to jump on a plane to Paris:

This photo (below) shows a more accurate color to the jacket. I love the asymmetrical front and the cuffed sleeves. The flowers were added on after I finished because as I looked at it, I thought, it needs a little something extra!

I opted to do a button hole instead of the loops (because I didn’t have two matching buttons) but think it looks great. Plus it’s easier to put on a moving kid!

Here’s a closeup of the flower (below). I just cut out 1 black flower and 2 red flowers from fleece and sewed them on using french knots.

With this being my first jacket I’m thrilled with how it turned out. Working with fleece was so easy. Shwin&Shwin instructions were great. I did have to cut the front piece twice because I failed to read ahead (I cut the neck hole in the wrong place) and had some trouble with step 8 but I think I fudged it well enough to pass. :) Definitely plan on making a few more in various colors to match all her dresses!

i heart faces: Pink

Posted in i heart faces on October 26th, 2010 by Cathy — Be the first to comment!

This week’s theme is pink in celebration of Breast Cancer month.

One of my favorite photos of the Little Peanut. We were getting ready for Lunar New Year at our Vietnamese church. She’s wearing the traditional Vietnamese ao dai (dress) and khan dong (hat). My first attempt at selective coloring. I tried to no avail to get the pink to be softer because I think the bright pink has a little too much “pop.” I do love how her lips and cheeks have a pink glow.

I ♥ Faces: Smirk

Posted in i heart faces on September 20th, 2010 by Cathy — 2 Comments

I live with the queen of snarky. Just yesterday as we were leaving the library I asked Little Peanut if she wanted to hold my hand out to the car. She promptly replied, “NO! I’ll walk by myself!”

It started at a very young age too. She was about 4 months when I took this.

We call this photo “The Stewie.” It was as if she knew what her shirt said (I pwn mommy & daddy)!

Mommy brag: itsy bitsy spiders….

Posted in kid stories, our kids' milestones / learning new stuff on September 2nd, 2010 by Cathy — Be the first to comment!

As Mommies (and Daddies) not only did we gain an additional member of our family but we gained bragging rights! What? You didn’t read that part in What to Expect When You’re Expecting?! Ok, so maybe it wasn’t in there… but everyone knows parents love to brag about their kids.

And well, since this is my blog….

We were in the midst of a little photo shoot of one of our up and coming items and she was giving me the “ugly” smile (which I’ll share someday!) so I broke out into song and when I was reviewing the pictures I noticed I got all her moves and knew I had to make a scrapblog for it.

I ♥ Faces: Got to wear shades

Posted in i heart faces on August 16th, 2010 by Cathy — 5 Comments

As you know we’ve had family in town the last couple of weeks and have been all over the Twin Cities showing them around. Last week we stopped by the Como Zoo for the kids. Our first stop was into the Blooming Butterflies exhibit. If you’ve never been to one of these it’s an amazing experiance. Butterflies from around the world fly freely in an enclosed tropical garden.

If you’re lucky enough one will even land on you! The Little Peanut has got to be a lucky charm because she had two butterflies land on her. I wasn’t quick enough with the camera to get the first one but when the second one landed I was ready.

Here she is with her Auntie rocking the sunglasses and butterfly!

I ♥ Faces: Over my head

Posted in i heart faces on July 20th, 2010 by Cathy — 1 Comment

Just this past weekend the Little Peanut discovered that she too can wear daddy’s baseball cap. She doesn’t just wear it any way though. She has to wear it backwards!

She’ll put it on say “hat” and then carry on with whatever activity she was doing… reading, playing with the iPad or her train set. It’s so adorable and I’m so happy I was able to get some photos while she was in a good mood and before she grew out of the phase.

Don’t forget to check out i heart faces for more!

i heart faces: baby week

Posted in i heart faces on June 14th, 2010 by Cathy — 3 Comments

It’s all about babies at i heart faces this week.

I’m so excited to see all the entries because who can resist little baby, (especially newborn) photos? There are already tons of amazing photos that had me swooning. Go now if you haven’t checked them out yet!

This is one of my all time favorites of our Little Peanut. She was only a few hours old and hadn’t even had her first bath yet!
